The Next Doctor: Just a few comments
- I figured out that David Morrissey was Jackson about two seconds before the Doctor said so. I think I was a little slow on the uptake.

- I LOVED Miss Hartigan's red dress.. I totally want it.

- "Rosita, a good name." Tiny Rose mention FTW!

- Loneliness was a heavy theme this Christmas, very much like last year. However since there were similar circumstances (you know, the Doctor losing his companions) that makes a lot of sense. Besides, it's a common theme for the Doctor anyway.

- They showed ALL of the Doctors!! HUGE props go out to RTD for the nice old school shout out.

- Doctor: "You've got your son, you have something to live for."
Jackson: "And you don't"
Goodness gracious RTD, twist the knife why don't you?

- Okay, so the Cyberking ship-monster thing was a bit cheesie, but so was the gigantic animatronic spider.

- I got weepy when the crowd thanked the Doctor

- My eyes burned when the Doctor started to talk about where his companions went. "They leave, they find someone else, they forget me." (anyone else think of Martha, Rose, and Donna?) Of course, he did "forget" to mention that he leaves some of them behind on purpose (Sarah-Jane, Rose), whether he really wants to or not.

- I cried in earnest when the Doctor said, "They break my heart." *sob!* I just wanted to cuddle him.

- a Great big bear hug goes out to Jackson for MAKING the Doctor go to Christmas Dinner. He needs more friends like that. I'd love to see a return visit. Plus, I LOVED David Morrissey in this role. He was fantastic.

Until I saw your post, I had forgot about watching. Epp. Bad Fangirl! Thank god for youtube. Otherwise, I'd have to wait until who know when for it to show here.

You're points? Totally agree with. All I could think of when he said "and you don't" was when are they going to mention or he finds out that his daughter is still alive? Honestly? kind of important , don't you think? Plus I'm still hopeful that Donna will make an appearance again. After all, it kept being repeated that the parallel worlds kept being built around her. Something has to come from that...eventually....maybe...okay maybe not?

Not a bad special. Guess I just wanted more since it's been like forever since we had one. I really am hard to please, aren't I. lol

When he said 'They break my heart' I whispered '...sss'.

As in heart plural. It made me really emotional but I was distracted by that.

Also, there were so many companion references I was spazzing: timorous beastie references and what not.

It threw me for a second too, that he didn't mention both of his hearts, but he's done it before. He seems to use the colloquial, singular "heart" when he's speaking figuratively, and the plural, "hearts" when he means it in the more biological sense.

Makes perfect sense.

Oh, but this episode was all about the Doctor finally getting over his loneliness! At least that's how I took it. Wrote a long post about it, too, but it went on the role play filter.

And don't you say anything against the steampunk Cybergiant. It was awesome! xD

I loved that the Doctor remembered that if he's going to take out that enormous walking tin can, he'll have to get rid of it, too, or it'll destroy London after all simply by falling on it. Go Doctor for thinking ahead! :D

I liked how he managed to make the thing disappear too. It was good thinking on the Doctor's part. :)

haven't seen the special yet but the Rosita line, was it the typical 'nice name' thing he says to people or did he actually look torn up enough for you to get that he was talking about Rose?

And I dont think I like the whole 'they forget me' line. I mean he forced Rose to accept the human doctor, and she freaking tore through the barriers of parralel worlds to get to him...*annoyed* but whatever...

My initial thought when he said the "nice name" thing about Rosita was that he was remembering Rose, not because he looked broken, but because his expression made me think of bittersweet nostalgia. I think the knowledge that she's happy in the other universe and that at least some version of him is with her, has made her more of a fond memory, than a bleeding, open wound. (Plus the ep was written by RTD and he likes to mention his other characters)

As far as the "forget me" line is concerned. I'm pretty sure he meant Donna. He loved her just as much as Rose, just in a different way. When he said, "they leave because they should," I think he meant Martha, and when he said, "they find someone else," that he meant Rose." (even though he manipulated the situation so that she would chose the other Doctor). But then again, he's had other companions that left for those reasons too, just not in the new series. So one could argue he meant everyone, and not just the most recent.

Morrissey for 11
I was kind of disappointed that Morrissey wasn't the Doctor (he was ten shades of awesome), which I tumbled to as soon as they explained the infostamp. However, it made me realize that (don't hurt me) I am ready to move on from 10. Christmas dinner was a nice change, and so was the kick-@$$ speech Jackson made for him. It feels like they are tying up 10's loose threads as much as possible.
